Schoolstrader 

We have been working with Schoolstrader Limited since 2006 on the innovative website www.schoolstrader.com. It is a great small ads website for independent school parents/staff/family/friends where you can find anything from holiday homes to hamsters, violins to Volvos. The site covers most UK independent schools and is free.

We have been providing a full design and development service to the Schoolstrader team for over 12 months as well as hosting and making sure the site can handle traffic loads.

Fragmented Communications Costing Millions

A recent Seimens commissioned survey revealed how businesses could avoid wasting money and lost productivity just by switching from a legacy telephone system to an IP Telephone system.

The survey was conducted by Insignia Research and found that an average enterprise with 1,000 employees could lose up to $13 million per year purely because of the inability to communicate and collaborate in real time.

Google Goes Mobile

Google cemented its entry into the mobile phone market this week with the launch of Android. Android is an operating system for mobiles, much like Windows Mobile edition, RIM’s Blackberry OS, or Symbian. Open-source and free, Android sets out to address the problem that it is too difficult for would-be developers to get their applications working well on a large number of mobile handsets.

Google has already signed-up 30 large industry players, including Motorola, Samsung, LG and HTC. That Google have attained this level of support is impressive, it also acts as an attraction for developers hoping to reach a large audience.

British Library Business Support

This months soapbox focuses on The British Library’s Business & IP Centre. Based out of the British Library, London, the BIPC provides a range of resources upon which budding entrepreneurs can draw. The BIPC is enriched by a vibrant community both online and offline. Workshops, on-hand expertise and intellectual property can be tapped from the centre. In the virtual realm, you can read official blogs, sign up to the Facebook group, or keep up to date with the calendar of events. Speaking of which, 12-16 November, BIPC are running an ‘Enterprise Week’, a series of activities to encourage young entrepreneurs between the ages of 14-30 to turn their ideas into reality.
