A study conducted by Eastern Management Group based on a survey of 6,000 IT executives revealed that Open Source Telephony products now account for 18% of the private branch market. The most popular of which is Digium's Asterisk IP PBX which is the main product Genzee implements for its clients.
The primary reason given was the minimal amount of Capital required and the flexibility of Open Source software. "CIOs are attracted to this because the cost is zero to implement and the chances are systems administrators know how to install it and make it work. CIOs are even able to reuse their old phone systems. They want to move up to a more sophisticated back-end platform without ditching their indestructible Nortel handsets; they can do it in phases with Asterisk," said John Todd, the open source community director of Asterisk. There is one drawback however and that is the significant upgrade of a company's system. Digium's chief recommended that companies planning on installing Asterisk hire a consultant for the initial install and then allow the company's IT department to maintain the system; a view we share. Genzee offers support for companies both big and small. If you have your own IT department we will work with them to implement your new IP based telephone system and provide the training for them to continue maintenance. If you are a smaller company and don't have your own in-house IT system, we can provide the support and maintenance for you. So whether your company is big or small, why not get in touch with us and see how we can help you save time and money with Asterisk IP PBX.
